I missed DreamGirls in the theaters due to some procrastination but bought it on DVD this weekend and watched it on Sunday.
Very...very impressed that we have some award-winning positive (for the most part) black stories that can be told. I'm starting to think we have an oasis of talent in retelling black music industry stories from the past.
Look what Ray did for Jamie Foxx.
Eddie Murphy's reputation is well established. Beyonce is already all-world in any thing she does. We'll have to see what this does for Jennifer Hudson. I never saw her on American Idol but I'm now a big fan. Hell, she's even on my desktop at work. She's got that girl next door appeal from DreamGirls and my favorite "girl-next-door type" Nia Long has done well for herself.
What could or should be the next black story told on the big screen?

can't wait to see james brown story. eddie murrrrphy. all you boo.
beyonce is all-what? she sucked in that movie like she does in all others. she can't act. jhud sang her under the table. AND this movie was no stretch for her. in a group that replaces members like underwear? check. pushes her to the front? check. gets rid of the strongest singer? check. not acting. would you like me to tell you what i really think? :)
O.K..I am with you on the James Brown and Eddie Murphy story.
Mrs. Sean Carter is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient and will get the vote of black male america...any day...'eerrday.
She didn't suck in the movie. JHud (my new baby momma candidate...btw) had a better role...she performed it better and got the hardware. I'm not doubting that but I can't buy into the part that beyonce sucked. Naw.
I have yet to see Dreamgirls. I dont really like musicals so i am no rush.
I want to see the James Brown story. Maybe even the Rick James. Can they do Luther Vandross?? That would be interesting if they did Luther
I haven't seen Dreamgirls either. But if The Fighting Temptations and the Hip Hopera are any type of true indication, I'm not pressed to see it. I think they said they were doing an Aretha Franklin movie, or it might be a play/musical. But JHud is supposed to play her. I know I got a press release about a Barry White musical/play. I cannot WAIT for The Great Debaters to come out. They're talking bout my birthplace!!!!
@epsilonicus....I'm with you on the James Brown story and Luther Vandross. Who would play them?
@jorniemajor...JHud as Aretha...Hmm...interesting.
