Someone (you know who you are) joked with me via e-mail that I have "n-word ears" (a reference to a scene in "I Think I Love My Wife) because I listed my DVD collection and it featured mostly black movies.
I'm a proud owner of Inside Man, I Think I Love My Wife, Pride, Daddy's Little Girls, Diary of A Mad Black Woman, DreamGirls and the Pursuit of Happyness. For the record, I've seen plenty of "white movies" (the most recent was Super Man) in the theaters but I prefer to buy DVDs of movies that have a profound effect on me.
Are these movies overwhelming "black"?
Yes.
I don't see a problem with it because for YEARS Hollywood has put out garbage like Soul Plane and other "black movies" that perpetuate stereotype after stereotype of black people. It is time to even the playing field with some good movies and maybe Hollywood has received the message.
2007 could be the year of the black movie and I will proudly support that bottom line.
I've already seen Daddy's Little Girls, Why Did I Get Married? and This Christmas.
I will see Perfect Holiday (Dec. 12), I Am Legend (Dec. 14), and the Great Debaters (Dec. 25).
I will also buy all the aforementioned movies on DVD when they come out.

One of the ads for Perfect Holiday looks like some straight up coonery.I don't know...
michelle stole it. i was just about to say that movie looks a little soul plane-ish to me.
SPChrist; supporting black business. Anything with Faizon Love in it will not have any moral or socially redeeming quality. You can take it to the bank.
@michelle and jameil1922...Maybe I'm blinded by the fact that Gabrielle Union (hit list nominee) is in it.
@chris...lol
I definitely want to see "I Am Legend"
You're just supporting your own.
Plus, black movies know how to have fun while supporting and encouraging with hopeful overtones. Or undertones.
I am Legend....I'm on the fence. It was okay, but it just seemed to be way too slow, and then the end was kinda fast. But whatever.
@epsilonicus....I still haven't seen "I am legend" yet.
@mdubb...I couldn't agree with you more.
@journiemajor...O.k. I'll get back to you when I see it.
