Essence Music Festival 2010

I guess I'm 15 years late on the Essence Music Festival.

But it will not be 16 years. After thinking about it in 2009 and backing out when I couldn't find anyone to go with me, I'm going to the 16th anniversary of the EMF in New Orleans this summer during July 4 weekend.

I made up my mind late last summer that I was going in 2010 either solo, with a travel partner or with a group of people. Now, I'm glad it is going to happen. I have the hotel and flight already booked and I still haven't decided if I'm going to get concert tickets for all three nights or just two nights or just one night. But I will get those soon.

I have never been to New Orleans and it is one of the few U.S. Cities that I haven't been to that I wanted to see.

I've been to Boston (grew up there), New York City (party there now), Washington, D.C. (could see myself moving there some day), Atlanta (another place that I could see myself moving to some day), Philadelphia (party there sometimes), Baltimore, Orlando, Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Tampa, Miami and Charlotte.

But New Orleans, until now, hasn't made my list. I'm interested in tasting the food, walking around the French Quarter, going to the concerts at the Super Dome and checking out the seminars at the Convention Center and much more.

Any Essence Music Festival veterans out there...looking for tips for a first timer.

I haven't been either. It's always the weekend of our family reunion. In theory, I could go to the festival on an off year that we don't have it, like this year, but it's too late to start planning.
I'm sure you'll have a great time. I've heard so many great things about it.
Enjoy yourself!

@Smarty. I will try...I haven't decided if I'm going to blog day by day or do it all at once when I get back.
