Time to invent the remix (Part 5)

The first half of June and the month of May completed a very entertaining first half of 2009.

  • On June 13. I went to the Snapple Big Apple Barbecue Block Party. The food was a little pricey ($8 a plate) and the portions were a little small. It rained on and off during the event and the lines were ridiculously long. However, I enjoyed myself and ate the good food. After the BBQ Block Party, I went for drinks at Markt. I had a mudslide and then tried a couple of beers that I've never heard of. The drinks were all good and moderately priced. As a result of not eating breakfast that morning and eating only a small portion of bbq in the afternoon, I was still hungry after all of that. I decided to check out another place Bar 89, which came highly recommended by my friends. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich (which was extremely spicy) and a couple of watermelon martinis. The sandwich was very good, the drinks were good too (but a bit pricey at $14 each) and the service was very quick. I would definitely go back.

  • On June 6: I went to a basketball meetup with some Jersey folks. I hadn't played basketball in about two weeks and I was little rusty missing my first 5 shots. After accurately judging the rim and finding the right arch on my shot, I was reigning 3-pointers, jumpers, hook shots, fade aways and layups on the men and women on the court. After nearly blowing the a 2-on-2 game with a bad shot and subsequent rebound by my opponents, I stole a pass and drove to the basket for the game winning floater. They missed me with the Gatorade shower. Oh, I also had the killer crossover working that day and the poor guy pictured above got his ankles broke on that play.

  • On June 4 - I went to Cafe 31, a sports bar across the street from Madison Square Garden to watch game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Orlando Magic. Since my squad, the Boston Celtics, was not playing I didn't really care who won the game but since I'm a Kobe Bryant hater I was throwing my support the Magic's way. The boys in blue, white and black didn't show up and Kobe and the Lakers ripped them to shreds. Anthony Mason...yes...ANTHONY MASON (the former Knick forward) was in the building that night. He was rolling solo and stood in the corner having a beer. Where was his entourage?

  • On May 16 - I went to a poetry show put on by Elijah Brown in Bloomfield, N.J. It was called "Let It Flow Poetry." The performers were very good and I'll have to check out another show.

  • On May 15 - I went to Six Flags in Jackson, N.J. I had discounted tickets through my job and I figured now was a good time to use them. Some of my friends were late that day and there was some drama among the women (when isn't there drama with a bunch of women...lol) but all in all...it was a good day. I didn't get a chance to get on all the rollercoasters that I wanted to that day...so I'm going back before the end of August. Who wants to roll with me?

  • On May 9 - I went to a birthday party at Volstead. No cover. Cheap drinks. Good food. Good music. That was a recipe for a good night and there were some scandalous photos taken that night. BTW, I'm not in any of them.
