What's love got to do with it?

I'll tell you.

Actually, my Houston friend Niki Herbert tells it better in her "Ready for love" poem below. Please help me convince Niki that she needs to put out a book of poetry because this poem is simply OUTSTANDING.

Niki's story is almost a carbon copy of how i feel right now (except for the line about a boyfriend...because I'm looking for a girlfriend!).

However, I've bragged enough about Niki and without any further ado....ladies and gentlemen.

Ready for Love
By Niki Herbert

I want to know what love is - i am ready to feel the highest of highs - and rid myself of the saddest of goodbyes.
I want to enter the realm of oneness between two - and finally evacuate the house of blue.
I am ready to soar without wings and dwell in abyss - i am ready to be touched by a never-ending kiss - and the death of me into the birth of us - is why i am ready to make a fuss - but knowing what love is by what it has not been.
I need a lover, confidante and a friend - i am ready for love - the joy, the pain - the sun, the rain - the never-ending going insane - i am wanting love to smack me in my face and land a permanent smile.
I am ready to be nomadic and walk every mile - i want to know love, hug love, embrace love - i have fallen in love with me - i have even loved my enemies - now, why can't love find me?
I refuse to believe my destiny is to be alone - not when i harbor a love so strong - and maybe that is the rub, i won't give it away - but i need someone to steal my love away.
I am seeking love and all it embodies - i ain't asking for just anybody - i am washing clothes for love - i am cooking and cleaning for love - i am praying for love.
I am riding solo in my car for love - i am staying pure for love - i am taking care of me, it and us for love.
I am wanting love to walk by like my sixth grade boyfriend - i am wanting love to bounce into my life like when we met on the court - so natural, so smooth.
I am wanting love to be here where it's cool - i desire love to make me want to sing - not able to carry a tune - but having the jazziest melody - and we know how jazz just flows and always goes.
I am ready for love to smile at me and make me smile back - i am wanting love to give itself back.
I have repented for what i have done wrong - i have told love i knew i traveled the wrong road too long - but i see love looking my way - but testing me every day - but i won't run love - and my patience is infinite for you - so when you decide to be true - love, i will still be here waiting and anticipating you.

Sigh.
Yep. This is me too.
Damn.
And alright Ms. Houston Friend. You're giving Jill Scott a run for her money. :)

Absolutely beautiful. You have a talent.
Also, it was just what I need to round off what has been a lovely valentine's day as a single black female who still has hope of love knocking on her door.

Beautiful Poem.:) Desiring to love and to be loved in return is a natural feeling, and a blessing when we have it comes.

OK I'll admit when I read the first line I was all like...Great, here we go again. But I kept reading down, and well, what do we have here? Original thought! Complex, easily identifiable metaphor?! Well done, Ms. Niki, well done! Bravo!

I feel like a professor on A Different World.

Nikki, Sherlon and I have a long history togethor -- being writers that met during an internship many moons ago! Sherlon - thanks for putting Nikki's work on blast! It's about time she was "published" and recognized for her talent. Thank you Nikki, for summerizing "love" in such a simple yet profound way! India.Arie, Jill Scott and Terry McMillian all need to step aside to let Nikki's talent shine!
Kudos to Sherlon & Nikki for "loving" their talent enough to share with all of us! When I find Mr. Right, he'll be reading that poem to know how I feel about him.

Niki...you have a gift that makes a lasting impression (hence the reason...I've saved your poem for almost 3 years).

I needed something to pick up my spirits on Valentine's Day and your poem was the perfect remedy.

I don't have any inside contacts in publishing but maybe one of my loyal blog readers does and will forward me the information.
