I’m not much of a conspiracy theorist but a recent forward from a friend had me thinking.

Here’s what the forward had to say:

“IS THE 5TH NUMBER IN YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER ODD OR EVEN? Have you heard anything about Social Security numbers, African Americans and the 5th digit of your SSN? Supposedly, if you are an African American or a minority, the 5th digit in your SSN is even and odd if you are white! It has been said if you take a poll, most African Americans will have an even 5th digit. Rumor has it; some companies are looking at potential employees' SSN to discriminate."

For the record, the fifth number of my social security number is even. So this theory is true for me. Your social security number is a vital piece of your life if you just think of all the times you have use it for identification purposes. So, it isn’t outrageous to think that companies could discriminate against you if they could decode your social security number to know your race.
