Well, we've reached the halfway mark of 2007. Time for a progress report.
I really thought 2007 was going to be THE YEAR for me. I was proud that I was able to clean up some leftover nonsense from 2006 and I came into 2007 with a clean slate. I was ready to tackle whatever came my way. Or so I thought.
a) new beat at work: At first, I probably underestimated the demand that the basketball beat would take, but as I always do, I finished strong in my rookie season. Grade: A-
b) new title within the journalism ranks: Well, I took over as president of the New Jersey NABJ chapter in Jan. and resigned in May. For an unpaid, voluntary position it was a job that required a lot of work and even a lot more patience than you can ever imagine. I was probably in over my head (combined with the new beat at work and with a new relationship) but learned some valuable lessons for the future. Grade: D
c) new relationship: I didn't have the courage to step to her in 2003 or 2004 (I forget the year) when we both lived in upstate New York. I was still new to the area when I met her and wasn't sure what her situation was at the time. Hit fast-forward. I moved to New Jersey and she moved to NYC. We had lost touch until I sent her an e-mail to see what was up. After e-mail tag for a couple of weeks, we agreed to meet up in NYC. After a couple of dates (you know my limit is three ), I wrote the following in my journal "she thinks like me and I think we would make a good couple. I don't want to seem too nice because I don't want her to think of me as a friend. I want her as a girlfriend. I think she's girlfriend material. So, we'll see."
I asked. She accepted. We dated. We broke up after four months. Grade: C
d) new friendships: First, I have to give a very big shout out to my very tall homegirl. When I was in a major bind she came through for a brother like a true friend I'll never forget that. I found my own place in mid-February but she helped turn a turbulent problem into a tranquil situation. Second, my homeboy and former co-worker has been a big help to me prior, during and after the move to the new apartment. He's become my right hand man and road dawg whenever something is poppin' off in Jersey. Grade: A+
e) new revelations: My buddy from college got engaged recently. My friend from high school has been married for three years. My other friend from high school is engaged too. I'm very happy for all parties but I'm definitely jealous. I really thought by now that I would be married with at least one kid or at least one on the way. It is starting to look like my best friend and I are in a showdown to see who will be next? Right now, he's got a headstart on me since he's dating someone. Grade: C

"I don't want to seem too nice because I don't want her to think of me as a friend..." on one hand i understand where you're coming from b/c i know how hideous it is to be relegated to the friend zone. not often in the last 6 years or so but the years it happened far outweigh those last 6 years.
on the other hand, that's also where guys go wrong. its better to be friends. may hurt more when it ends but so what? no pain, no gain.
you ain't tell us about no promotion, Mr. Big Ups...or perhaps I was MIA. Either way good stuff.
Wasn't a promotion...per say...just a new beat...when I get some $$$ added to my paycheck or a new title...you'll be the first to know.
I'm definitely for setting goals and measuring the amount of success.
@cnel...thanks.
I am really enjoying your blog. This is my first time here so, I have tons of catching up to do. From what I've read so far, you seem like a really passionate person with everything and everyone you come in contact with. Looks like you don't take anything for granted and you're always evaluating your life and how to improve. If I'm wrong and you're a "bad guy" then you're good, I've been fooled:) Just kidding!! Great blog. I'll return to read more.
tanyetta...

You are 100 percent right. Maybe, I'll find someone that appreciates that type of man.
From what I've read of this blog so far...you've experienced a lot. And you knnow what, it's till early in the game. 2007 will round itself out...just watch.

@anonymous...
I always finish strong. I'm going to Las Vegas in August and I'll be celebrating my birthday while I'm there. I'm very confident I can get the second half of 2007 off with an explosion while I'm in Las Vegas.
@pops...
lol.
@spchrist...Vegas is the place to get things poppin, especially for a birthday so have fun. Just don't get arrested! :-D
@anonymous...
Arrested? Never. I know how to party just right and not end up in handcuffs...at least not handcuffs put on by police. (Smile).
LOL@spchrist....you're a mess :-D (smile) you should have your own show...you ever thought of radio?Like really...your blogs have the hint of an on-air personality. Its like your blog is your show and everyone that comments is your guest...hahahha "You're on the Air with S. Christie ( or whatever you'd call yourself)...Today's topic is..."
:-D and its funny how you always seem to put somone on blast in your blog in some kinda way...
Holla
@anonymous...In the past, I've had people say that I have the right voice for radio or some type of announcing because I can project my voice without a microphone. I ignored those comments then but I might look into it in the near future.
The only person I put on blast in this entry was myself. As you can see, I'm a tough grader.
