So, my master plan of winning the mega millions this weekend and resigning from my job effective immediately fell through when I only got two numbers correct in Friday night's drawing. Some lucky person in the state of Georgia is "rich...beeach" as Dave Chappelle would say.
I, however, will not be going into a higher tax bracket and I will be returning to my job on Thursday, Sept. 4 but not before I live it up on my first trip to Los Angeles, California. I'm celebrating Labor Day weekend...West Coast style. I took a non-stop flight on Continental Airlines (my first trip with this airline) and I absolutely loved the airline, the flight and the plane. Continental might be my new No. 1 airline after this flight. Apparently, the plane flew from Glasgow, Scotland before stopping at Newark International Airport (EWR) and then it was a non-stop flight to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Five hours and seven minutes , according to the captain. It was the longest flight I've ever been on and I have a hard time sitting down on a plane for more than 4 hours. I even used the airline's bathroom (something I vowed I would never do...EVER) but I had to go and there was no way I could hold it any longer. I don't know how folks join the "mile high club" because there is a barely any room to turn around in that bathroom.
Anyhow, back to the plane. The booklet said it was a Boeing-757-200 and here is Continental's description of the plane. The plane had TV monitors in head rest of each seat. I could do several things on the tv monitor such as: track my flight, watch a good selection of movies, listen to a good selection of music, play several games including casino games. I was playing Texas Hold 'Em with fellow passengers on the flight and I was cleaning up when the captain announced that we were now preparing for landing. Overall, it was the best flight of my life. My e-ticket said I was getting a snack on my flight but I got a meal (I MEAN A MEAL I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR). I had a small cheese pizza, lettuce with ranch dressing, Lay's chips and brownie. Afterwards, the other flight attendant crew came by with drinks. Then the meal cart came around again and offered everyone pretzels. Then the drink cart came around again and offered everyone more drinks. Then the food and drink carts came around again with more snacks and drinks. By this time, I'm sure someone heard me burp because I had "the itis." I had to wave off the flight attendants because I was stuff and not use to this type of treatment.
I got curb service at LAX from my gracious host (remember the woman who dubbed me "Sher-Bear") and she took me for a sight seeing drive. We drove down Hollywood boulevard and saw some of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, I took a picture of the Kodak Theatre , I took a picture of the Hollywood sign (by the way it cost $27,000 per letter) and later we ate at In-N-Out Burger. I think I have a new favorite burger place. We ended the night watching "The Heartbreak Kid."
That's all from Day 1 in the 818. Talk to you soon.
