NABJ Bureaucracy

O.K...I have a story to tell you.

On May 31st my National Association of Black Journalist student membership expired. No biggie! I went online and renewed my NABJ membership. I paid the $80 fee for a professional membership because I was now a professional sports reporter. No problem, right?

Oh...so wrong. NABJ took my money on June 6th and I got my new membership card today (letter was dated September 19th). I was excited as I ripped opened the envelope but that quickly turned to horror as I read the fine print on my new NABJ membership game.

The fine print on the card said student membership. I shook my head and immediately got on the phone with the NABJ office. I finally got through to someone and they couldn't explain this gaffe to me and said they will call me back tomorrow.

I can't wait for this explanation.

As far as I'm concerned there are only two options to rectify this. Give me a refund of $55 because a student membership is only $25 and we'll try this again in May 2006. Or get me a new card pronto and fix this in NABJ's database for good.

I hope they fix this quickly cause I don't want to get ignorant. I hope they do call me back on Tuesday...cause if they don't i will call every day and annoy them until they fix it and get it right.
