Patriots Act (Week 3)

The most valuable kicker in the history of the NFL does it again. Rain, snow (Raider fans remember this well) or shine, Mr. V, or Mr. Victory as I like to call him (Adam Vinatieri) was nothing but net as the clock ticked down. Vinatieri nailed a 43-yard field goal with one second left to give the Patriots a 23-20 lead at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. The ensuing kickoff was only a formality as Patriots employee No. 4 was money when it mattered.

AFC East Standings

Patriots 2-1
Miami 2-1
Buffalo 1-2
Jets 1-2

As someone who absolutely revered Joe Montana in my younger years, Tom Brady is definitely Joe Cool 2K5..some QBs might have more come from behind wins, but nobody does it on a bigger stage or with more at stake than this guy. I give him and the Pats props. They ain't goin' nowhere anytime soon.

@KT-what are you a Yankee fan or something?!?!LOL. Dont hate, Congratulate!
@Chris-Tom Brady is NOT Joe Montana. He is like Guiliani in front of the cameras after the towers fell, in the right place at the right time with a decent team and coach around him.
@SpChrist-Vinatieri for President!
I LUV that little hairy Italianman! ...and um, good luck on your future promotion, LOL

NFL admits giving Patriots extra 52 seconds

The NFL acknowledged a clock error that might have aided the New England Patriots in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mike Pereira, the NFL's director of officiating, said in a statement that 52 seconds were added to the game's official time when the clock was improperly reset early in the fourth quarter.

With the game tied 20-20 with 1:21 remaining at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, the Patriots drove 37 yards and won the game on Adam Vinatieri's 43-yard field goal with one second left. Without the error, the Patriots might have only had 29 seconds for their final drive.

The mistake occurred early in the fourth quarter, when the clock ran to 13:59 from 14:51 after a reverse by Steelers receiver Cedric Wilson went for no gain. A false start penalty was called on Pittsburgh offensive lineman Kendall Simmons on the next play and instead of resetting the clock to 13:59, the clock operator set it back to 14:51.

"The on-field officiating crew, which oversees the official game clock operated in the press box, failed to recognize that the clock was improperly reset," Pereira said in a statement.

Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett could not be reached for comment.
